CryoBeeF AppVoice Readme file, written by CryoEnix

Please enable wordWrap to read this document properly (format/wordwrap)

Thankyou for downloading AppVoice, CryoBeeF's first downloadable application.This Readme should answer any questions you have regarding Appvoice's use - if you feel I have missed anything, or you have any more queries, do not hesitate to contact me at cryoenix@hotmail.com

1.0 - What is Appvoice?

Fed up of being typekilled online? You busy ordering your teammates when that bullet cuts you short? Well, why type the commands when you can just say them? If you have a microphone, and play online often, you will find this program very useful!

AppVoice is a voice recognition program written for online games. It allows the user to speak his voice commands, saving precious fragging time. It works by simulating keyboard presses with pre - programmed voice commands. The installer includes All of the voice commands for Medal on Honour: Allied Assault (Compatible with Spearhead and Breakthrough), but can be used with any other game or application with it's simple user interface.

2.0 - Installation

At the time of writing, the installer has not been written, but it should install like clockwork. The only problem I can see is if you have not downloaded and installed the Microsoft Speech SDK. Although it may work if you have Windows XP, or have installed Unreal Tournament 2004, as they both include aspects of the SDK. However, it would be best to download the file from the following URL if any problems occur:

There are several versions of the file to download, the one I'd recommend would be the Speech SDK 5.1 (The 68 Mb one). Again, if you have any problems, email me at the above address.

3.0 - Using AppVoice

AppVoice uses personal save files (defined with the .voi extension, from now on addressed as 'voice' files) in order to keep you and any other family members/friends files separate. On first startup, you must go to File/Open Existing and locate the following file:

X:\program files\cryobeef\appvoice\Default.voi

Where 'X' is the drive letter you installed the program on.

Once loaded, The word 'Mohaa' will appear in the left hand listbox. This is the game window, which displays all of the games/applications that have been programmed for use with Appvoice. Clicking on the word 'Mohaa' (An abbreviation of 'Medal of Honour: Allied Assault) Will display all of the voice commands in the right hand listbox. These are the lines of speech said by the user (i.e, you) to trigger the keyboard events. If you click on one of the lines, the bottom box will display the command for the said line in the right hand box. For example, if you click on the line 'Good job, Team!' the bottom will display the line:

Which means that if you say 'Good job, Team!' AppVoice will type those three keys into the program that has focus - as if they were typed with the keyboard itself. the code 'v11' in Mohaa, you will be activating the voice command for your character to shout 'Good Job, Team!'

On each of the listboxes, you can create your own game/app list on the left, your own voice commands, and your own typing commands. simply right click on either listbox and select 'New' to create your own. Perhaps you want to add UT2k4 to the games section - or maybe add the liberation taunts to Mohaa for the expansion pack breakthrough?

Whenever anything is changed in the program, the voice file is saved automatically - a 'save as you go' system. This applies to all but the bottom 'Command Issued:' box, where you need to hit enter in order to save changes.

There, I think I've mentioned everything I need to to get you started, with the exception of the PCS. The PCS (Abbreviation of 'Pre-Command String') is a safety measure so that AppVoice doesn't interpret everything you say when you are just talking aloud to someone. The PCS can be configured differently for each game, and by default it is the word 'Appvoice'. So, going back on the 'Good job, Team!' command, in reality with the PCS you would actually have to say 'Appvoice Good job, Team!'. I figured it would be safer to create the PCS, as I've sent some innapropriate messages pre PCS by simply sighing into the microphone! Of course, if you prefer to not use the PCS, you can go to Actions/PCS... to modify, or erase, the PCS for that particular game/app. Hit enter to save.

But what happens if you want AppVoice to simulate the enter button, or a character that you cant normally just type into a textbox? Simple. Here is a list of commands for frequently needed buttons:

Enter = "¬13" / "¬cr"
Arrow Key Up = "¬up"
Arrow Key Down = "¬dn"
Arrow Key Left = "¬lt"
Arrow Key Right = "¬rt"
F1 = "¬f1"
F2 = "¬f2"
F3 = "¬f3"
F4 = "¬f4"
F5 = "¬f5"
F6 = "¬f6"
F7 = "¬f7"
F8 = "¬f8"
F9 = "¬f9"
F10 = "¬fx"
F11 = "¬fy"
F12 = "¬fz"

And for any other ascii character, enter the key "`" followed by the three character ascii number. For example "`032" would be a space, "`013" would be enter. Although in this case, if the ascii number is less than 3 digits it must be preceded by an appropriate number of zeros. The "`" and "¬" keys can be made with the tilde key, found on a British layout keyboard immediately left of the "1" key. Use shift for the "¬" key.

Finally, to get appvoice running just click "Actions/Hands Free", and click again to disable. Test it by calling out one of the commands, if it is then highlighted it's working fine!

I hope you enjoy Appvoice, have fun and get fragging!

Chaos is merely logic beyond human comprehension
