MultiTES4 (0.2v ALPHA) - File Description  

It's finally here...... Multi-Player for TES IV:Oblivion!! Although this is an alpha, and in early stages of development, it is great to see progess!! There are issue I'll admin, but this is amazing. Something Bethesda couldn't do, is done. You can find the offical mod site here.

There is no readme with this file as the author has it on his site.
Below is install information -

1) Run the MultiTES4 client. Move it so it is positioned at the bottom right of your screen.
2) "Connect" to a server that is running. Now click the "Synchronise" button (it will fail, but that's fine as it will retry).
3) Quickly run Oblivion before the next retry (you have 45 seconds), but make sure you do so in "Windowed" mode! IMPORTANT! (Oblivion doesn't allow context switching). This is found under "Options" in the Oblivion launcher.
4) Once it has loaded, load up a save game (the special one you saved before).
5) After several seconds, you should see a message in the top left of your screen, saying something along the lines of "Player # Initialised". This is good as it means the scripts are activating properly.
6) Now that you're ingame, wait for the client to retry synchronisation with Oblivion.
7) If you get to the "Injecting/Extracting Data..." stage without the "Adjusting Failed!" stage, things are working well.
8) When another player connected to the server makes his first move after you have connected, you should see a "Added New Player To Game" message appear in the client's external log.
9) In a couple more seconds (in-game), you should see a another message at the top left of your screen saying "Player # has joined the game." The MultiTES4 quest will activate as well. It is recommended you make this you're active quest.
10) Go find your friend (he will appear as a green marker on your map and compass when you have the MultiTES4 quest active), but remember it only works for exterior cells, such as Tamriel and the main cities. You can technically add any cell you want (say you want to explore alyied ruins with a friend), see the "Adding Cells" section on this page.
11) If everything appears to be working, then next time you play, you can do so in "Full Screen" mode. Follow the same steps as before.
12) The server is flimsy at best. If you disconnect for some reason, you will be able to connect again, but the game may be broken. The server will be improved over time to handle disconnections. The best result is when you only connect once. UPDATE: This has been somewhat fixed, although I still wouldn't trust it ;-)
13) WARNING: Do not save your game when you are playing! If you save the game while MultiTES4 is playing, you will not be able to use that save again for a multiplayer game. Before you play, have a save game that you can load up if you die (this is the one you made before you acrivated the mod). I intend to fix this issue in a later release. You will know when a save game is corrupt, as you will ALWAYS recieve the "Failed To Find Injection Point!" message.
14) Be patient, this mod will improve with time.

I have some really important questions, which would be really handy to know for everyone here.

So can the author please answer this:

1. Can people use cheats when they run the multiplayer mod?
2. Do people have to create a new personage, or can you continue on your own?
3. How's it with other mods?
4. How does it work? Is it made in servers or is is just one world? (If it's the last then we probally have a big problem).
5. Do you have any lists of errors till now that are so big that we really should be warned for?
6. IMPORTANTST QUESTION: Is multiplayer TES4 like totally new and with new options, or does it contains EVERYTHING from the original TES4?
7. How is it with pausing the game?
8. And, can you attack eachother?
9. Can we type with eachother already? (Like #1 here said.)
10. Are there multiplayer quest's made by you, or are some quests added with multiplayer option, or is it just the single player quests, or aren't there any quests at all?
11. VERY IMPORTANT ASWELL: Can this affect your regular Oblivion game, and are progresses saved? Can you save at all?

I know and read that you will make updates, and I know that this really won't be the final version, though we do want to know this.

so in that case, there are some conflicts with the user license agreement.

you are alloud to make mods, but this changes the game!

should be a good thing for the author to aks permission from bethesda, he can be sewed for it if he doesn't!!

What about players who have mods that lets them be a race that was not originally in the game? What if the other players do not have the mod the said player has?

Wow. This is outrageous. I'd like to help with testing, but this isn't my computer. When it gets more stable(maybe up to a beta) I'll try it out. Good luck.

Also, In light of loppers comment, how will differences in mods be resolved?

It is incredibly unlikely for a person to be sued over something that brings more interest to the game, thus increasing Bethesda's profits. Possible, of course, but very unlikely.

However with no documentation I can't help but wonder about the quality of this mod. Until it comes across a little more professionally I'm not going to bother with it. Not to mention it probably doesn't support OldBlivion anyway stick out tongue.

I don't know either if bethesda can allow it.

But if I give my opinion, they will allow it, since they said themself that they never want(ed) to make multiplayer.
This may be even good for them, since off the multiplayer mod more people could buy oblivion.
I hardly doubt bethesda will complain.

Though it is very recommend to ASK them anyway!

Wel that might be because you run (too much) mods (I think, I have no idea, but I think that).

Umm I talked to author a while ago and he said that a clean install is best for this mod. I would say if thats true it depends on client size

if you think you cannot be sued for a program or mod that increases the game's interest, than you need to rethink. hard.

maybe not for this mod, but there have been far more simple things that got attacked by developers lawyers.

A friend and I are trying to get this up and running....everything connected just fine but when the loading bar gets to the end it just stops, does it take along time before you get into the game or is it freezing on us?

I think it also means how fast your pc is, if it takes for you 1 minute to join a singleplayer map, then think how long it can take on multiplayer with like 20 people or even way more?

Yeah that would make sense, my comp barely meets the Min requirments but the loading has always been pretty fast on singleplayer but for multiplayer its just one other person. I see your point though thanks much appreciated smile

I dont think its because Bethesda "couldnt do it" more a case of them not wanting to do it. The elder scrolls series of games have always been single player game and the devs wanted it to remain so. But never the less a good effort, and I cant say I wasnt curious to see what it would be like online.

this is not the best but as you(maker) said, it has a ways to come and i look forward to seeing this fully woking(samegame-two people). this is a good start and for taking the time to do this ill give it a 10/10wink

This mod is soo dead!
the creator of it didn't even respond to any posts and is not trying to better this mod that could have been so great... what a fail!!!
