Oblivion Hotkey Fix - File Description

Description:
Assign item/weapon/spell hotkeys to your numpad, a handy feature for fellow arrow-key gamers

Quote:
Welcome to CryoEnix's oblivion hotkey fix - a simple application I wrote to fix a small annoyance that oblivion has. You see, I play first person games with the arrow keys and not WASD, meaning that the 1-8 keys are worthless to me, and I'd much rather the hotkeys on the numpad. Well, I've sussed it at last!

The true work of a great man!

open your oblivion.ini in your save game folder, scroll down to [controls] and replace the quick1/2/3 etc line with these..

Quick1=004FFFFF
Quick2=0050FFFF
Quick3=0051FFFF
Quick4=004BFFFF
Quick5=004CFFFF
Quick6=004DFFFF
Quick7=0047FFFF
Quick8=0048FFFF

Presto 1-8 on numpad for your quick slots.. ( < another arrow key user here)

Good Idea! I would download it, but it would be useless to me as I have an ergodex keyboard.big grin

Can I use this in conjunction with the standard 1-8 keys, giving me 17 quick keys altogether (1-8 + numpad 1-9)? If so, I'll download. If not, I won't, since I used WASD but would like even more quick keys.

seeing as I'm getting a G15 keyboard with a lot of spare buttons on the WSAD side, I don't really need this, but good work for those who would like it.

I honestly think WASD is better... but I switched from the arrows early in my life. It's hard to switch something you've been doing for years. WASD allows easuer access to hotkeys and you don't have to take your hand of the mouse to press 1. Anyway my point is that it's easier using WASD, but good work on making this.

I dont understand why people still use arrow keys to play games..I mean..for gods sake its 2006 not 1990. The fact he felt the need to make a mod for some key bindings is proof enough he needs to get with the times. For christs sake, when you use wasd key stup , ITS ACTUALY SHAPED TO YOUR HAND IN A RELAXED POSTION!!!! Can you say logical?confused

Oh, And I bet you get spanked in online FPS's...lol

Also, how are the 1-8 keys useless if he uses the arrow keys? Assuming a person is right-handed, you'd think the right hand would rest on the arrow keys, and you'd leave the left hand up to the remainder of the keyboard.

 #9 - possible reason - Posted by: Serpentax (Member) on 09-08-2006 at 16:38
theres always the possibility (like me) that your left handed and use your right hand on the arrow keys and left hand on the mouse, for me WASD is uncomfortable.

With the shape of my keyboard I bind all my key actions to the num pad and the 6 control keys (pgup,pgdown,end,delete,home,int) above the arrow keys.. throw in use of ctrl,shift and a couple others and my 5 button mouse and i never need to move my hand to play any kind of game. Oblivion was a real pain before i bound the quickslots to the num pad, now its comically easy to swap weapons/spells while i kite things.

 #10 - arrow key user? - Posted by: stealth20 (Member) on 03-01-2007 at 18:34
wait a sec...if u didnt use the arrow keys...what would u use? W,S,A,and D... and i use arrow keys and i am pretty darn good at FPS...

and i lie this mod...good work

@7: I stopped using arrow keys quite a while back, and i have no problem with using WASD.It is all down to preference.
But what im getting at is, WASD keys being better than Arrow keys is an OPINION, which you are treating like a FACT

@9: I am left handed too, i use WASD and get fed up with having to change controls on EVERY game to suit my playing style. Oblivion is the ONLY First-Person game i have come across over the past 2 years with a setup that i havent had to change.

Note to all players: Before you start treating your opinions like facts, think of all the possibilities before you write something, because if you dont, you will upset alot of people.

Cheers for your time,
Nzambi

 #13 - Posted by: Faiakes (Member) on 10-25-2009 at 13:33
Can you numpad9 then?

 #14 - Posted by: Faiakes (Member) on 10-25-2009 at 13:36
@ WhyCare

I also use arrow keys but I turn my entire keyboard 45 degrees forward (i.e. the left side goes forward while the right just turns).

It also gives me the necessary distance between other keys which I don't want to be pressing accidentally.

Isn't that configuration the most 'natural'? smile
