Qarl's Texture Pack 2 - File Description

Description:
The purpose of this package is to make TES IV: Oblivion look even better than when you bought it. To do this I've created new textures and normal maps to replace a large number of those in the game with ones which are higher resolution and more photorealistic, while at the same time, still very close to the original feel of Bethesda's intentions. However, due to the increased resolution, machines with lower-end graphics cards may see a slight decrease in performance, but usually no more than a few frames per second.

This mod is extremely realistic. Thus far the game looks amazing with this mod. Although some people have experienced problems with this mod, it all works well. The comparison between the original and Qarl's are amazing. Qarl did a lot of Textures for Morrowind as well so if your interested in Morrowind check them out. I heop to see more from Qarl.

============
Requirements
============
If you're running Oblivion on the lowest settings this mod is not for you. You're going to need some pretty good hardware to take advantage of this mod.
=========
Installation
=========
Unzip Qarls_Texture_Pack_2.zip to your desktop.
Double-click on Qarls_Texture_Pack_2.exe (a self-extracting 7zip file) and extract it to your OblivionData folder.

Everyone I would like to say that the most newest servers lately on ALL filefronts are getting errors when they are just newly posted.
I myself experienced that it took like a week before it worked properly for me again.
I have no idea what it is about that, only out high admins do, and I'm just a staff member smile.

Note: This doesn't mean it happens all the time, but on some files it happens and like I said, I have no idea why.
Belgian and Australian servers might work though, you should try them as much as our american one.

Wonderful work, shame i cant download it (damn satelite internet connection) but i will keep trying. I love hi-res texture packs they really make a great game a little better (especially the ones for Half-Life 2)

Keep it up

Looking at the screenshots, makes me wonder if this is worth the download.
I can see where the 'improvements' are, but actually stopping to think about it: are they 'improvements'?

The fort wall is meant to look degraded, worn and old - the new texture makes it look almost new, albeit rough - but still, new.
The existing wood in the fence looks worn, roughly cut and weathered (like wood does when it's not treated).
The mod makes it look cut by a saw (very sharp, straight edges), then burnt (I'm refering to the pattern of the wood - it is less like a grain, more like the flaking of burnt wood).
Also, the new snowy ground looks like it was wrapped in plastic.

Nice effort though.

I'm having some trouble installing it. I do everything the included readme says, but the bloody thing won't work. I got the mod manager, checked what I was supposed to check, all with the textures in the right place. And it still uses the default textures. Qarl, if you're reading these, please help.

I've just installed the MOD (took about half an hour to download this files huge.)
anyway it makes most of the game textures look awesome, the new fort textures are by far my favourites.

Also in response to malik22's comment it works fine with the natural environments MOD.smile

I have a problem in which my program doesn't recognize 7zip files. In fact I've never heard of them, ever.
Is it possible this can be done in a simple .ZIP file or something?
Thanks.

I really do think its impossiable to even touch 100 FPS just while walking around and general questing let along in battles, because most of the game testers and reviewers never even got past 65 FPS. But then again I could be wrong and you might have an absolute beast of a computer stick out tongue

I wanted to know about one thing, I installed this mod and the boxes all changed because of the new textures, one of the box type is a heavily red / tanned box and really doesnt match any of the other boxes

Ok, i dont see how you can have over 100 fps in this game really, i have 1 gb ram, a geforce 7300 gs 256mb and an amd athlon 64 3500 and i can play on the highest settings at about 60fps indoors and 30 fps outside.

But i guess if you have sli 7950 gtx 1gb x 2 its possible.

Looks amazing but im gona download at the weekend... because it will take like 45 minutes.

hey, im just wondering here if theres any point in downloading this,
when im inside, my FPS ranges anywhere from 60-30 mostly in high 30s-low 40s
when im outside. its anywhere fom 30-15 mostly in the 20s and it VERY rarely goes down to 7 for a second,
is there any point in downloading this?

#33 i think you should try it, as the textures will barely change your fps, the only thing which really affects a reasonably beefy computer is anti-antialising, HDR/Bloom and reflections.

erm.....just one more thing....this texture pack has alot larger texture sizes therefore taking up much more graphics memory... if your card is not even 256mb.... you will start to get crashes... huge fps slowdowns and incompatibilty probs.... i suggest getting a 256 mb video card so it can cache all of these textures properly....or just put 90% tuxture compression on...then they'll look worse than before frown

So I don't get it for what normal RAM mem is used? Not for textures then for what? Sound?! 80% of this game are textures and they're supposed to fit into these 256 MB's and what about normal RAM then ?! Aaargh!!!
Don't like such mods, which kills-your-fps-instatly.

Ok, there should be two folders inside the archive: Meshed and Textures. You just cut & paste these folders into your Oblivion/Data directory.

Will this work with the lastest 1.2 patch for oblivion? And does this include everything texture pack 1 has or do you have to download pack 1 aswell to get the "whole package"?
