They might get *****ed, since these songs are copyrighted, I dont believe it says anything about releasing them to the public how this person did. None the less, i do think its a good idea.

Why to to make these public here? These songs are already in the game's Data --> Music folder.

#1 and 2, read what 3 says, its already from their sound file so it's LEGAL.
#3 and also for others, please read the readme, i say there that it is for the lazy people under us, so it will kind of help them, though they can find them themselfs though.
Or if people don't have oblivion, then i can already have the sounds.

So please remember, this is for the lazy people under us, or for people which don't know the file where they are in.

these files ARE in the music folder, and if you port your own mp3s in and change the names to suit, you can put your own music into the game, like I did. I find certain licenced songs actually suit fight scenes better :T

It's not hard at all to just delve into the Oblivion data folder and find the MP3 files. They're not compressed and are out in the open.

The only people who will download this are people who don't know how to search in thier data files, or people who don't own the game. And I'd imagine it would be illegal for someone to get this music this way if they don't already own the game.

Y'know, you may think this is okay, but it's actually illegal distribution of copyright content. Just the same as ripping a CD and sticking on your filesharing programs.

You see, when you "bought" the game you only bought a licence to the software for your personal use. The game (and all it's Bethesda-created content) is still the property of Bethesda and may not be distributed without their consent.

So, to the author: thanks for helping the lazy folk but you're kinda breaking the law.

And, to Filefront: you're kinda helping him break the law...

And, to everyone else: downloading this is breaking the law - whether you think you 'own' the game or not.

You see #11, if they wanted to make a sound track CD, then it is THEIR fault that they leave the sounds there without giving an error that you can't take it or whatever, but hey, it's in their files, i bought the game, so i can mess with it unless i ask cash for it, which i don't for these sounds.

So i am sorry against Bethesda, but anyone can get them theirselfs aswell, i only help people find this, and for the laziest people i submitted it.

So in anyway im not law-breaking, because they didn't mentioned that i can't put their music on filefront, or did they?

You really ought to check facts about copyright law...

The game is the property of the creators (Bethesda). So is all the content they created for it. That includes the music.

Now, unless you paid them a very large sum of money and now own the copyright for the game and all it's content (which I doubt) then you may not distribute any of their copyrighted content. And, yes, that includes the music. (Whether they make a soundtrack CD or not!)

The licence agreement (the thing you agreed to when installing the game) allows you to own a copy of the content for personal use, provided you adhere to it's terms (but I'm betting you never read it). You see, when you buy a game it's almost like you rent it - with a one-off payment and for a very long time. But you never actually 'own' the content.

With the Construction Set (and any modifications to the game files) you are allowed to modify and re-distribute content provided it remains for the use stated in the original Licence Agreement (in other words: to be used within the game or construction set). You may not re-distribute actual game content for any other purpose (whether you're getting paid or not). So popping their music on Filefront for use on MP3 players is, in every definition breaking the law.

Now, you might not agree with me, but you can always look it up & have a read of your Licence Agreements (for the Game and the Construction Set) to verify.

Cheerio.

Look i really care about that, but it IS their fault, if they didn't want this, they had to make this MORE CLEARLY, also they should make a warning when you copy it to another file (which is easy to do, but they didn't).
Also, they could protect it in anyway, by simple disabling it for personal use, because if they want to make a CD, then they can suspect this happens.
Anyway loads of people know the folder too, and it is not meand to give away to everyone, but simply for people that don't know where to get it (because it's already free.)

So the last i say will be: If they didn't want the music ripped, then they had to make a warning, also they could block it so that we can't copy it to other files.

By the way, *IF* Bethesda will complain, then filefront is free to remove this sound pack ofcourse

I don't care much, it's still the sound from take 2 which you vote on, and not mine smile.
I only made it for those lazy people under it.

Mikeyp's right. This is why the Double-Barrelled shotgun mod from DOOM3files.filefront.com was removed. Hey, someone took the RoE content, made it standalone, and incorporated it into DOOM3. This is illegal, and is basically what removing the music and allowing it to be played independantly is.
Regardless of wether Bethesda left the files in MP3 format out in the open, it should have been left for private use by . . . you! It doesn't matter if they leave it in a folder which says 'Oblivion MP3 Music' because it's still theirs. They made it, and if they ever get *****ed at you over it, they'll sue you. Fortunately I don't expect Bethesda to chase around things such as this, but with the new soundtrack coming out they might just do that.
You could instead have simply opened a forum post or a news item telling people how to get the files for personal use.
This would have evoked no copyright questioning, and would have been simple enough for people to do.

Actually, this IS as legal as modding. What should be illegal is bringing to public the music from the buyable soundtrack, wich this isn't. The music from the buyable soundtrack is a much higher quality version - conclusion: 99,999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999

And I forgot, with above stated (this is not the music from the official CD soundtrack) this only should be illegal if Tharulerme asked money for this.
