The Elder Scrolls series has so far taken us on a journey through the many provinces of Tamriel. We have seen vast swamplands, great volcanic wastelands, snowy tundra, great glaciers, sprawling valleys, and a host of others. But there is more to the World of Nirn than that.

Lets start with some basic terminology.
Aurbis: Aurbis is the physical universe in which the Elder Scrolls Series takes place in. Not only does it contain Nirn but also the Planes of Oblivion, the Void, the Unvoid, and the outerrealms.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aetherius: The mysterious realm of Aetherius is the spirit realm, where all magika resides. It is home to all immortal spirits, even the few mortals who have found ways to make themselves immortal. It is home to the Aedra, the imperial gods. It lies beyond the realm of nirn, beyond the planes of oblivion, beyond (dare I say it) Aurbis.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Battlespire: Battlespire is an academy for great battlemages. It trains the elite battlemages that serve the empire. While its origins are unknown, it is known to be located somewhere between the world of nirn and the planes of oblivion.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oblivion: It is a common misconception that oblivion is the Elder Scrolls version of 'hell'. It is not. It is home to the Daedra. It is the plane of exsistance surrounding Nirn. The cosmos as seen from the world of Nirn is oblivion. The moons and celstial bodies are the mortals' view of the spheres of daedra floating in the skies. Stars are essentialy the energy of Aetherius shining through holes in Oblivion.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nirn: Nirn is the planet on which we witness the elder scrolls series. Not only does the land of tamriel exsist here, but it is also home to several other continents. It is also known as 'The Mundus', or the mortal plane. It is known as the mortal plane because all of its species eventualy die. It has two moons, Masser and Secunda, which orbit it, and the sun which Nirn orbits is known as Magnus. The continents of Nirn include Akavir, Aldmeris, Atmora, Pyandonea, Tamriel, and Yokuda.

Now, lets have a look at the various continents of Nirn.
Akavir can roughly be translated into Dragon Land. It lies to the east of tamriel, and is home to the races that make up the Akaviri, the Kamal, Tsaesci, Tang Mo, and Ka Po' Tun. In the history of Nirn, the Tsaesci have attempted (and failed) to invade Tamriel. Humans did live in Akavir for a period of time, but the obviously brutal Tsaesci killed them off.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Little is known about Aldmeris. It is rumored that Aldmeris lies to the south of Tamriel. Aldmeris is also called Ehlnofey in Elven tongue. It is the place the Aldmer emigrated from and was said to be completely covered by urban growth. It is possible it is still populated by Aldmer, but all those who had tried to find it have failed. It has also been suggested by some that Aldmeris is a myth, and does not actually exist.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atmora is an unlivable frozen land, though it was once warmer and inhabited by the Nedes. Over 4000 years ago, a man named Ysgramor traveled to the distant land of tamriel, and to its capital city of Saarthal. Soon thereafter, it was razed by the Aldmer, the ancestors of all Elves. Ysgramor retreated to Atmora with his two sons, and raised an army of 500 Nedic warriors known as the Five Hundred Companions, to take revenge against the Aldmer, who were almost completely eradicated in that portion of Tamriel. Ysgramor founded Skyrim, the first human kingdom of Tamriel.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The kingdom of Pyandonea is series of islands to the south-west of Tamriel. The continent consists of hundreds of small islands, covered in lush tropical rainforests. It houses the many waterspirits. It is also the homeland of the Tropical Elves (or "Maormer"). The king of Pyandonea is the immortal Orgnum Thras, a wizard who claims to be God-Snake of Satakal. Three centuries ago, the island broke its alliance with the Summerset Isles, and Orgnum waged war against Tamriel. Potema, queen of the Kingdom of Solitude tricked Orgnum by convincing him that she would assist in overthrowing the current emperor, her half brother, Antiochus. Potema's scheme made Orgnum and his entire attacking fleet begin their assault against Tamriel. When Orgnum's Fleet passes near Artaeum, the homeport of the Psijic Order, a magical storm destroyed the entire fleet including Orgnum. The storm was created by the Psijic Order under the payroll of Potema.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tamriel, home of the Elder Scrolls series, is said to mean 'starry heart', though in an elvish tongue means 'Dawn's Beauty'. It consists of Nine provinces, Black Marsh, Cyrodiil, Elsweyr, Hammerfell, High Rock, Morrowind, Skyrim, Summerset Isles and Valenwood. In addition the city state of Orsinium is attempting to gain the title of Province.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yokuda lies to the west of Tamriel and was the homeland of the Redguards. It was once a great and prosperous continent. 3500 years ago, Yokuda was devastated by a giant tidal wave, of which the causes are still unknown. But it is more commonly accepted that the continent was in a deadly civil war and the Yokudans used a terrible weapon which poisoned the water and salted the soil of their lands, rendering them useless. Only one small archipelago remains today.
