Feel free to submit your files in the normal way. We have found the issue and our staff will be recieving instructions tomorrow about what to do if a file still reports the error to you.
There is a small error on how our back end sees certain files but the file is there so no work is lost and we can add your work to the sites.
All site managers please check the staff forums tomorrow.

Dear FileFront Users,

We would like to address some ongoing issues with our gaming sites. As most of you are aware there are a number of bugs that are currently affecting things like voting and, on rare occasions, the user upload system. We can assure you all that these issues are currently being worked on along with other areas of the whole of the FileFront sites. If you wish to upload a file you can contact your site via: team@XXXXfiles.com and send them the file directly through those site specific email addresses. We do encourage you to try and submit it via the upload system (if it is a small file) first; You can also upload your files directly to FileFront.com and use the server 2 server function that is available on the upload pages.

The system we employ is a custom made system so as you can imagine these things do take time. This coupled with the fact that since the take over in April, our tech team is drastically smaller than it was under Ziff Davis.

Some of you will no doubt say "it is just a few small bugs so just get them fixed", right? Well in some aspects that is true but first the cause needs to be identified and any fixes tested to make sure it does not break something else. This has happened many times under ZD so our Tech guys are airing on the side of caution.

We would also like you to take something else into account, Development.
Thats right, the development of these game specific sites. By today's standard, our back end is old and, to be honest, the sites themselves need to be overhauled. This is what we are doing right now on top of hunting down bugs. The development means a lot to both staff and you, the end user.
With a better back-end it will add functions and make the adding of sites for new games so much easier and quicker. The site will be redesigned to bring a fresh new look to them. Uploading your files should be easier and hopefully see them on the sites a lot quicker.

So why are we posting this? The answer is simple: Some of you may think that the sites are bieng neglected when the opposite is true. They are going through a massive development phase it is unfortunate that during this phase there has been some disruption to you, the end user and for that we apologize.

loving the fact that you are so dedicated and, if in the long run we see a site that is 1000 fold better than the already awesome site this is, i'm sure we can all be patient. keep up the good work! we owe you so much already. Two Thumbs Up!

Hopefully, everything will get sorted out and with the redesign of the Network sites, things will go a lot faster. Take your time fixing the bugs so they won't come up again, I'm sure everyone will enjoy the new Network when everything is done.

Goody, can you tell us what is the estimated time for completion on the User Upload Feature being fixed? I am sure there is an actual ETC for this? Also is there an ETC on the voting and polling issues?

I ask because:

Polls haven't worked since August 8th. - 7 weeks ago - 55 days ago to be exact
Voting hasn't worked since July 6th - 11 weeks ago - 87 days go to be exact
File Mirroring hasn't worked since September 17th - 8 days ago

In case anyone wants to jump on my back about the above figures I am not hating I am just stating the facts. I did not make these numbers up. 87 days ago and 55 days ago. That is not an opinion, it is fact.

So can some actual answers be given instead please?

I feel its frustrating these features of the site haven't been working and I feel kept in the dark about it...

Rather than saying 'our teams are trying', maybe give us some idea about when they'll be completed. I'm sick of waiting, and so are others. I'm sure I'm not the first to notice the reduction in Network traffic.

Also is this Development the same Development that n0e has been speaking about for nearly a year now? Or do you mean the new sites that were supposed to be rendered weeks ago?

The site have problems since CoD4 original release. CoD4, CoD5 have been neglected. Many official releases never been posted and others weeks later. I'm talking about official patches. Example recently the CoD5 patch 1.6 and patch for the mod tools 1.4 have been released. The exact date is september 18th. Tha was 7 days ago. No posts about it, no links for download, not even a single word about that.

The site is not only neglected, it is simply dead.

Majority of all bugs will be squashed to a point where there livable, so to speak. In time anyway. Don't let the wannabe critics keep yeah from doing a good job.

Yes Sl4sh, It went from a ranking in the top 200 sites on the internet in the last quarter of 2008 to nearly 1200 in recent days And it has been falling way before the April disaster so that can't be blamed in fairness

Sl4sh it was not a April Fools day thing, It was more than just 1 day and to be honest it was good few weeks past that before full acces and any kind of stability was formed.
Yes that whole business did harm the sites in a big way. A lot of media sites reported that FileFront was closing down for good, Very few reported that we had been saved and we are back in business. This is a good example that most sites only like to report bad news and some of those sites will have benfited from that bad news but that is to be expected if it serves their interest.

Anything promised before April is null and void as they were promised under a different owner.
In the last 5 months (yes 5 months and not a year) The main FileFront site has been redeveloped (as promised by n0e) and the Network sites are now the priority. When the main site was redeveloped and the whole of FileFront was moved to new servers (Yes they spent thousands on new upto date equipment) it caused chaos of that there is no doubt. However it did show how the old back end could not cope. The main reason it could not cope is that it is simply old and held together by temp fixes done by the old tech team. The new sites that have been added to our back end are the probable cause of the upload systems random failure and that is also the cause of the delay in launching the new sites.

There is no ETA on when these bugs will be fixed but they are being hunted by the original developer of our system. There is also the development of the sites and the new managment system to replace our old one that is also being worked on.
We are going through what some people want to call a low point but we will come through that and be much better than we have ever been.

FileFront is a free service and any money raised from advertising is put back into the sites. All we are asking for is patience in return you will have new look sites with more functions. You will have sites added for the new games and a lot quicker and to top it all it will still be a free service.

We are not hiding anything and the unique way that all of our sites communicate has meant that bugs are inevitable during such a massive program of redevelopment.

I remember at least one team@ didn't work, as I submitted my BSP Hex tutorial, but I don't remember which site it was, some id-tech3 driven or id-tech2 driven game.
Quite a time ago, so I dono if it still does not work.

Didn't any of you complainers understand the difference between staff and tecs .Its the TEC s that fix the problems,so stop blaming the STAFF.You all know the old saying ( good things comes to those who wait )so stop complaining and wait.Keep up the good work staff and ignore the complainers they just want to fight.

Okay cheerleaders, blind cheerleaders I may add, I am just pointing out the numerical data of the situation, at least if I do that people can't say that my arguments are unfounded and are seeped in bitterness/bias. It is what it is.

I know Jos is the one looking after fixing the bugs but if the guy has a full time job and has a very young family to look after - He possibly can't fix these bugs all on his own in an acceptable timeframe. If you guys were to let's say, ask Ronnie back to help out fix the issues then the bugs would not go on for such a long time. Hire him as a volunteer in a tech guy position so no one looses their position and Ronnie fixes the issues with Jos. Why can't you guys just send him an email asking him to help? It is not a big rig-ma-roll to do so.

I guess this is more about the crew than the tech (oh surprise, something entirely new [warning: sarcasm]).

I guess we are lucky some old crew returned otherwise I would believe in the theory some(quite a few) made up that the ship (filefront) did sink.

Thats absolutely true.

I do just believe that you do your work the wrong way.
currently, i cant login, cant vote, need to submit comments twice to see them posted, cant upload potds, as i cant login and need luck for the upload system to work.
Yeah all this can happen, but it does now happen since the end of march!

I can understand that you have difficulties with working on a webpage created by ziff davis. nobody can expect from you that you know how to work with this stuff.

In my opinion its time, now, for a change. i dont believe anymore that you can fix these bugs at all, and im sure hat im not the only one. My idea is, delete all this *****, except the mods and create a new network with a system you staff know.

Or do you really want to work on this old webpage for the next years?

Obviously you can login because you have posted a comment. The current bugs have not been there since March at all so please stop with the inaccuracies, It only shows how little you know.
Potd and file uploads work. There is a bug for the potd upload that means a potd that has a ' in the caption fails and that is being looked into but it is not at the top of the list.

As it has been said in the previous news item, there is too many variables to consider for an estimate.
If you check the update on top of this news item you will see though that things are being worked on, that's all we are able to tell you right now - simply for the fact most of us don't know more than this.

Goody, it is good you guys have found out the issue with the File Upload system but from what I gather it's a work around using the FTP upload. Workarounds are good when an issue goes on for more than a few days and cannot be fixed. Hopefully it gets fixed fully soon.

As for the voting and polling issues?

To Pille, you are right in a sense but seriously I have not worked for a company or seen any client companies or for that matter any company who did not have targets for issues to be resolved. Unfortunately Filefront doesn't have that because it is a one man tech team - Jos.

Look Filefront can't keep giving the same old we are working on it excuse but who is we? It is Jos. So the actual official answer should be "Jos is working on it but he can't commit to it too much due to his own Real Life commitments so there is no real estimate". Just tell the members, those of us who are left, what is going on - the figures don't lie, so any intelligent person can see that the network is on a downward spiral. Just cut the bull guys and start telling people what is really going on.

You can give the whole Filefront is free so shut your mouths tirade but most of us have been here years and many members uploaded alot of material to Filefront to host which contributed to it's previous success so I think the members deserve some straight up answers.

@ IKS: Quite bluntly said, I am not keeping anything secret from our members, I'm answering their questions to my best knowledge since I started working here again. I state facts known to me, one of them being that while Jos is helping out he is not as alone as you make it look, though, granted, he knows most about the backend and the system so he plays a lead role.

In the few years I have known you before we went separate paths I have never considered you someone who would spread such half-hearted statements on FileFront, and it's quite disappointing to see you doing so. I fully agree with the last paragraph of your comment, but if you check the replies given by network staff in the last few news items you will see we are not holding anything back and just as sick of these bugs as everyone else is.

Trust me, nobody has forgotten what a valueable staff member you have been, the fact you wear a user title which was originally given up a while ago should clearly indicate that. Your stats can hardly be doubted either and they sure present certain facts, but all you do right now is to assist others to put the blame on the wrong people.

So, both as a former friend of yours as well as a work collegue, if you want to spend so much effort into improving things on the network (which a lot of others do as well), make a return and make your ideas heard by the right people, but stop putting the work of the still dedicated network staff members down. You're neither doing us, nor the members, nor yourself a favor with this.

I know how it looks Robert and I know I have destroyed alot of my friendships, relations and reputation in the last few weeks. At the end of the day, Filefront surviving is all I care about. All I am doing is having a voice. I know what you meant is half-truth statements but that is not what they are. I know you years and you know me years - I don't commit myself to an issue without having leverage or evidence.

I know alot of bridges have been burned but forget the network staff for a moment. I am not talking about SA's, you don't have to address the network nor do any other SA's. The NA's and management have to do so, that is who I am talking about. Not the actual site staff. Due to poor communication and in alot of cases, staff being ignored by management, the staff are in the dark as much as everyone else. I not only concede that I agree with that.

No, it's really not that complicated. I'm a data tech by trade and deal with users everyday. This is not the same thing. This is a free service, the users lively-hood does not depend on this site working properly. They told you there is a problem and that they are working on it. You, the end user, have absolutely no control over the situation.

So all of the opinionated BS isn't going speed up the process. Just keep your smart-a$$ comments to yourself, the issues will eventually be addressed. I'm sure most of you can find something more productive to focus your energy on. Or maybe not.

I have been polite to you IKS and you have chosen to ignore what has been said but persist in insulting staff. Now sl4sh, you know the rules and insulting members is not on.
Make no mistake the rules apply to you both and they will be enforced both here and on the forums. Yes I have read that.

To our members. I can only apologies for the outlandish display from 1 or 2 members that obviously have issues with FileFront. They are misguided and for what ever reason they feel that attacking the staff and the managers is ok. Well it is not.

We are being open and honest with you and what I have reported in this news item is correct. Please do not allow the opinions of less than a handfull of people spoil your time here. We try to give you all the oppertunity to express concerns and opinions in a open discussion however that has now failed on the last couple of news items thanks to IKS.
