According to our last poll, over half our members can't mod. This gave me an idea- a special team of modders endorsed by ES Files, who have the job of replying to questions asked by the public, and submitting tutorials. In return for this service, they get special privileges such as links to their site, their mods as featured files, and the title of 'ES Files Modder'.

Let me know your thoughts on this idea, so I can maybe set it up. If you want to speak to me about this in private, or are interested in joining the tutorial team, email:

I was one of the people who voted "I am an experienced modder who can do most things" so I would be glad to help. How do I become a member? I'm pretty good at modding, if I do say so myself, and am working on lots that I hope to host here soon. smile

You can go wrong with it, but yeah, it's hard to actually go wrong stick out tongue

The thing is though, that for me, when I first opened the CS, I was a little overcome by all the different options, but gradually I figured things out and I'm sure this is the same for others.
I think that what some people need is some tutorials and inspiration to show just how easy it is to create something really quite good.

Hopefully I can get something I'm working on up here sometime.. O_o

Sounds good, I would especially like some help with scripting to make some special things happen. Also things like spells - maybe summoning a mubcrab stick out tongue

I can mod a little bit with cs. But making NIF-files is something I want to learn. Which program and how?

Making a NIF is done through Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, or NifSkope.

Summoning a mudcrab is easy as Hmmm Donut!. All you have to do is make a spell with a script effect:

scn SummonCrab
ref Crab
ref self
begin ScriptEffectStart
set self to getself
set Crab to self.placeatme CreatureMudCrab
begin ScriptEffectFinish

Blender have I heard of. 3D max and nifskope have I tried but i have don't get it to work. I will test blender and hope a tutor comes soon! smile

Id really like to learn how to make an object in blender, get it textured and turn it into a NIF which is physics based. Ive been trying it recently but it wont show up in game.

It's a good idea for those how can't be bothered to crawl over to wiki,it's my summmer holydays in two days,I shall do an intensif study off 3dsmax and tes construction set tutorials,I hope to finish the holydays to be quite an experienced modder

Noting what #5 said, I completely agree. I remember my first mod well... I put a test gold chest in the side of the skingrad chapel and a book inside that told the story of a pirate that stole the treasure, and then a wraith in the basement called "pirate's ghost." That was a big accomplishment for me then... but now that seems like something a baby could do big grin

Anyway, now I'm even in the Undernethe team... so I've got a lot of experience.

Hey does anyone know where i can get my hands on a WORKING Nif Import/Export tool for 3ds max 9, the clothes and armour appear skewed and crazy when i import them and the game crashes when i export my custom weaponry!

ps, this annoying little thing kept me from releasing my Mehrunes Longsword Mod wich turns the dagger into a logsword.

Well I have version 5, but I had the EXACT same problem, until I installed and tested it on my sister's older computer. It worked perfectly there, but it still doesn't work on mine! Try using it on a different computer, that's my advice. Also, even with the new one, I still can't make COLLISION THAT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another annoying problem is the skeleton is totally invisible. Other than that, I can do it better than before. I've made new weapons, new jewelry (for my sister) and all kinds of things. I even made a light sabre (it doesn't really work too well though) Also try getting rid of the collision and using nifskope to replace it with collision from an already made object.
